The migration crisis in 2015 has shown that European countries have no control over their borders. The Paris and Brussels attacks, carried out by an international network spread over several countries, showed how it is vital to know who is entering or leaving your territory.
In addition to these concrete issues, a state, which is democratic in nature, is defined by the existence of borders which delineate the territory in which a people live and the legal area in which the sovereignty of its representatives is applied.
There cannot be a sovereign state without borders. The ADDE calls for the abrogation of the Schengen area so that every country can reclaim control of its territory.
The restitution of borders is indispensable for a more effective fight not only against terrorism but also against illegal immigration and different forms of trafficking.
